Japan is an island country. Location: Eastern Asia, island chain between the North Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan, east of the Korean Peninsula. The characters which make up Japan’s name mean "sun-origin country", which is why Japan is sometimes identified as the "Land of the Rising Sun". This is map showing regions and prefectures of Japan.
